InstantDB: RE: Can't run the ScriptTool in Visual age version 3.5

Title: Can't run the ScriptTool in Visual age version 3.5
Robert

Glad you got it fixed OK. There isn't really a single class that starts the database. Unless you use the RmiJdbc driver, InstantDB runs in the same VM as your application. When you create a JDBC connection and it gets spotted by idbDriver, it creates a an idbConnection object which in turn either loads a Database object or connects to an existing one (one per database opened). The Database object is then responsible for finding table files etc. When its connection count reaches zero, it closes all of the tables and the database is shutdown.

Thanks very much, it seems to work now. Just a quick question, what class actually starts the DBserver? The documentation doesn't seem to explain this

Thanks
Robert

ScriptTool does this when it can't find the script file that it was supplied as a parameter, or if it can't find the default file: sql1.txt. It's been a while since I used Visual Age, but if I remember correctly you have to place the script file deep down somewhere in the VAJ projects directory where it runs its VM from.

Hi,

I am using visual age for java and would like to run the DB from within IDE for ease of development, but I get a null pointer exception during a setName for the a Thread when running the SriptTool all the .txt files have been imported into the resource folder and for good measure the ide/program folder (this is java home).

Any suggestions?
Regards
