Hi all,
I've asked asked Peter Hearty about a potential problem we encountered on a
Macintosh running OS 8.x and he suggested posting it to the list, in case
there might be someone knowledgeable enough about the Mac to suggest a
workaround.
On OS 8.x there is a system limit of 348 files that may be opened at one
time (8,169 on OS 9). InstantDB keeps all table files open in order to
facilitate and speed up access times. Obviously, there is a problem if the
user has a number of background programs running (installed fonts seem also
to be files kept open) and you have a relational database with a good number
of tables. Short of breaking the tables down and storing them in separate
databases and accessing each database as needed, I'm not sure if much can be
done. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Michael Belanger
