Does DODS use prepared statements for this? Doesn't
seem likely that this would occur with prepared
statements.

You could try another JDBC persistence system at
osage.sourceforge.net. ok, I confess to having
interest (authorship) in this. But very small
learning curve for someone accustomed to using xml
mapping for persistence.
